NameRachel DerrTeaching Assignment: 2nd Grade
Building Assignment: Trumbauersville Elementary School
Teaching Experience: I have taught grades kindergarten through sixth grade in England, North Carolina, and in Central Bucks SD. After staying home to have three children, I pursued a master's degree in reading education to ensure I was aware of the most recent research in literacy education. The last several years I have served as a long term substitute at Trumbauersville in the capacity of third grade teacher and instructional coach. I am excited to join the excellent professionals at QCSD.
Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy running, hiking, visiting new places, cooking, reading, and spending time with loved ones.
Why did you become a teacher?: Elementary school was challenging for me and I wanted to be for students what I needed at the time. I see the whole child in each of the students I teach.
What is your favorite part of teaching? Students' joy is my favorite part - whether it be as the light bulb goes off for understanding, they make connections with others, or they just find the love of learning, that joy makes it the most rewarding profession for me.
What is one thing you want the community to know? I run a half marathon each year (after saying just three years ago that "I am not a runner"). Every journey begins with the first step. I believed I could, so I did
