What will you miss the least about teaching?
In-service, PSSA training videos, professional goal, recess duty in winter!

What is your happiest memory from your time in Quakertown?
There are soo many! But, accompanying the QCSD high school band in the 1993 Orange Bowl Parade in Miami, FL and watching the Trumbauersville Elem band receive a standing ovation at its 2014 Spring Concert.

What advice do you have for teachers?
Enjoy life first !! Work part time in a low stress environment, do some traveling, follow my kids in college and beyond!!!

What are your retirement plans?
Try to ignore the outside junk and close your door to be there for the kids!!!

Thanks for the memories.
This next section of the blog post includes some fond memories shared by colleagues.

I remember when Mike was “the new kid on the block” in the Qtn. District. I was part of the interview process at that time. Since then, Mike and I have enjoyed working together in many areas. Two that stand out are the Music Dept. Faculty Concerts we performed in, and the instrumental music demonstrations Mike, Dave Kenney, and I put on for the lower grade instrumental students in order to interest them in taking lessons. Oh, and Mike educated me in what the name NASCAR stands for. Yes Mike, I still remember, but could never really get into watching a bunch of speeding cars going around in circles. Or ovals! Sorry.
Best wishes, and keep in touch!

Mike and I were colleagues at Neidig for many years.  What I remember most about Mike is his great sense of humor.  He always had a joke to tell and could always make you laugh. Teachers at Neidig affectionately nick-named him "Accu-Boyd" because we loved getting his weather updates throughout the year.  Mike's genuine love of music and teaching has had an incredible impact on so many of our QCSD students and he will be greatly missed.

Mike, I will always remember was how you loved making band instruments fun for kids. One of my favorite memories is watching you perform glissandos on your trombone and seeing the kids' eyes widen. Another favorite was watching you tilt the tuba so far over that it seemed like it would fit on top of a student's head while he played lower and lower notes. Thanks for helping your students and your colleagues enjoy music over the years.
