Unions Gather for Camaraderie and Competition

One of the benefits of being a member of the union is the opportunity to socialize and connect with colleagues! Last Friday, 75 members of the teacher’s union (QCEA) and our sister organization representing our instructional aides and secretaries (QESPA), gathered outside of the Sixth Grade Center for a Cornhole (i.e. beanbag toss) Tournament and tailgate before the home game of the high school football team. The union also extended an invitation to our district administration and board members.
The unions invited all members and their families to come together for some great food, provided by Chartwell’s, and some serious competition. The Cornhole tournament was a double elimination challenge for the 13 teams who participated.
Mike Benning, QCEA member and Neidig teacher, made the boards and donated them for the completion. (FYI, he can make them for you, too, with any image you would like. Contact him directly if you want more information).
Our sponsor for the event, Lehigh Valley Educators Credit Union (https://www.lvecu.org), generously donated the prizes for the tournament winners, including gift cards, travel blankets, coolers, and a teacher survival kit.
The winners of the tournament were:
3rd Place – Team Neidig Valley (Trish O’Neill and Mike Benning)
2nd Place – Team Derby (Sarah Derby and husband Ben)
1st Place – The PRIDE of 7th Street (Ryan Wieand and Jeff Palen)
QCEA president, Wieand, and QCEA Treasurer, Palen – both teachers at Quakertown Elementary – went undefeated throughout the competition to secure their first place win.
Stay tuned for future social events!
