QCEA Loves Our Community
While the pandemic has brought our community much pain, many of our members have been trying to bring hope and love. From sewing masks to delivering hot spots to students without internet to donating time and money, QCEA members have been going above and beyond to support our community.

One teacher, while wanting to remain anonymous, shared that she and her family donated all of their stimulus money to help others. The donations went to: Quakertown Food Pantry, Feeding America, Boyertown Multi-Service, Habitat for Humanity, Cattitude Animal Rescue, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and one of our Quakertown families in need.

Spanish teacher Alaina Wert is leading one group of teachers who are helping those in our community with food insecurity. Heaven's Bounty is a local food pantry in Quakertown and Alaina's mother-in-law just happens to work there. The organization provides families with enough food for an entire month. Here's a photo of Alaina and her daughter Gabi delivering food.
In April, art coordinator Kate Fetterolf worked with Tim Quick at St. Luke's hospital to organize an art campaign to bring smiles to health care workers and patients battling COVID. The art department asked students K-12 to create a work of art conveying hope and positive messages. Students submitted artwork digitally to their art teachers who then sent the works to Quick at St. Luke's. He then printed and laminated all 156 submissions to create a beautiful display at St. Luke's University Health Network. QCSD art teachers are thrilled to see their students using their talents to spread messages of hope and positivity. You can see all of this amazing work in this YouTube video.
And yesterday, three QCEA members organized a "retirement parade" to honor two colleagues at the Senior High School. Brenda Roth, Jen Stover, and Audrey Waddell couldn't let math teacher, Mary Ann Byatt, and high school main office secretary, Donna Benner, retire without a proper send-off! Both have dedicated their lives to the children and community of Quakertown. Friends, co-workers, and administrators drove by the retirees' homes spreading cheer and well wishes. QCEA wishes them all the best in their retirement! QCEA will soon be sharing profiles of all of our retirees. Stay tuned!
