We thank them for their years of dedication and service, and we wish them all the best in retirement!   Name: Michael Boyd Last Teaching Assignment :  Elementary Instrumental Music Trumbauersville & Richland Number of Years in Education :  42 Number of Years Teaching in Quakertown :  36 Which building(s) have you worked in?  All except SGC, TV and new Pfaff What will you miss the most about teaching?   Watching the kids become little musicians and seeing them perform in concerts, assemblies, etc. The camaraderie with the staff at each building. What will you miss the least about teaching?  In-service, PSSA training videos, professional goal, recess duty in winter! What is your happiest memory from your time in Quakertown?  There are soo many! But, accompanying the QCSD high school band in the 1993 Orange Bowl Parade in Miami, FL and watching the Trumbauersville Elem band receive a standing ovation at its 2014 Spring Concert. What advice

What will you miss the least about teaching?  Doing a 50 yard dash to the bathroom between classes, grading papers, and having to be patient all day long! What is your happiest memory from your time in Quakertown? There are SO many happy memories - I truly loved my job almost every single day for most of my career. Richland Elementary How long have you been a school nurse?  23 years Why did you become a school nurse? When my children were pre-school age, I was a stay at home mom. My son's principal at QE knew the school district was looking for a part-time RN at Tohickon Valley and thought it would be a perfect fit for me.  Both of my own children had very serious health issues in elementary school and I really depended on the school nurses. It was reassuring to know there was a medical professional in the building all day every day. I spent 9 years part-time at Tohickon and I'm in my 14th year full time at Richland. How has C

How long have you been a school nurse?  5 years Why did you become a school nurse? After working in the hospital for many years, I had an injury that left me looking for a change. Working within the school came with many benefits that other areas of nursing did not. Once I started as a substitute, I couldn't see myself doing anything else. Quakertown Community High School How long have you been a school nurse?  This is my third year as a Certified School Nurse and my 5th year working in a school setting. Why did you become a school nurse? Nursing is my second career. When I went back school in my 20s I was torn between teaching and nursing. Ultimately, I chose nursing because it had a stronger job market at that time. Once I completed my degree and began working, I started thinking about what kind of nursing I wanted to do long term. Love kids. After working in hospitals, doctor's office and visiting nursing, I was looking for a nursing position in which to end my nursing career.....less stress, more time off and a regular schedule. It was a total bonus to have summers off to spend with my family. Another bonus is working in the community in which I live as a way of giving back and using my talents.
